Campus Police

Well, tin soldiers and Nixon's coming/We're finally on our way/This summer I hear the drummng/Four dead in OHIO.

I know, no one got killed during the recent police activity at UCLA and Florida. But two students did get tasered and that smarts. We still don't all the details of the UCLA incident. It seems the student who got tasered may have planned it. However, it's still an abuse of power.

BTW, if you don't have a union representing you, you are really missing out on the sweet life. I personally think that government employees should not have unions because the bastards that we put in charge of spending our money (the politicians) spend it just like anyone spends money that is not their own. They'll bow down to the unions and give away our money to teachers, firemen, the police, and bureaucrats--all in the name of great education (hah!), safety (when was the last time a fireman saved someone's life? Where are the stories apart from the jaws of life that do not involve any risk on their part?), protection (When was the last time any police saved someone life outside of a sniper who could have been rubbed out with a State SWAT team instead of the myriad SWAT teams we now have), and government service (when was the last time a government employee treated you like you were the boss?)

Back to the campus cops. The student who got tasered at Florida was charged with inciting a riot but Utube clearly shows that everyone around him was still seated and showing no signs of unrest. Yet they felt compelled to taser him. Why, because it made there job easier. It meant that they would not get any bruises from the student. Perhaps more importantly for them, it meant that they could show all the other mamsy pamsy students who stood by how they would get tasered if they spoke up against the big and mighty Florida Campus police. Campus police are the lowest form of police.

As far as the students are concerned, if I don't see any protests from them then they deserve what they get. You know, maybe courage skips a generation. I remember being ready to lay my life on the line for the sake of ending the Vietnam War. I marched on Washington with every call. Let's see if college students have what it takes stand up against abuses of power. It's a must do. The terminator will not do it for you.

Police, I understand, are different animals when their hormones start flowing. But that is exactly why their supervisors must train them and come up with humane alternatives. What would I have done with the library transgressor? I would have used sticky stuff on him. You may have seen this substance that is shot from a gun and incapacitates a perpetrator by immobilizing him. But a taser is so much nicer for there is no clean-up to be done. So what if a student with a bad heart succumbs to police laziness.

The Florida fiasco should not have happened if John Kerry had been more of a leader. I would have answered the student's questions and, eventually, if the student had been unreasonable, I have no doubt that the student body would have ridiculed and booed him away. End of story.
