The Second Amendment in a New Light

I was pro Second Amendment not because I was a hunter or a target shooter*. I viewed it as the people's final defense--a "militia--" against tyranny. The Parkland shooting got my brain to rewire. What I finally realized is that should our government ever turn despotic, public arms---they are calling the AR15, the Minuteman's weapon of today--can do nothing against the might of the U.S. military and the other law enforcement organizations. You would need to count on support from those same organizations (as in Egypt) and the odds of that happening are unlikely as the vast majority of us are entrenched within most fibers of our society. If you own an AR15 to be used as a militia type weapon, you are no different than a Linus with a security blanket. The only way, IMHO, is to outsmart the government WHEN and IF it should become despotic and abusive of our constitutional rights. Hopefully, no one is yet strategizing for an overthrow of our government--to date that gov...

Justice Stevens Proposed Amendments/Corrections to the U.S. Constitution.

Justice Stevens recently wrote a book in which he proposes certain amendments intended to eliminate many contemporary problems in constitutional law.  See this DailyKos article.   His proposed amendments are in red while my comments  are in black.  A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms when serving in the Militia, shall not be infringed. "When serving in the Militia" is problematic. What is a militia? Is it in fact the National Guard of a given state? If so, that doesn't go well with the necessity "to the security of a free State" because that's why we have the U.S. Army. If it's not the National Guard, then, what is it? Whatever it is, it is something other than the guard or the army. I submit that it is something created by citizens to protect themselves from a despotic government. We should recall that at th...

Shame Say Those in the Progessive Game

And so did I when I was much younger. Damn, what purpose do guns serve in our Nation? Guns have five purposes that I know of. One, they help defend us from invaders. Well, we've never had many invasions--none that I can recall, actually; but, in any event, the populace doesn't need them because of our highly subsidized military. Two, the Black man in the hood needs a gun to command respect. Understandable. How else will they get respect? I'm sure this has a societal fix, I'm just not sure what it is we are willing to change.  Certainly, the majority in our country do not need guns for daily respect but see the fifth purpose. Three, the Police need guns because the violent perpetrator has easy access. Can we do anything about this? Unlikely, this is Capitalist America and where there's a buck to be made, a buck will be made regardless of whatever regulation anyone tries to implement. Fourth is the so-called sportsman. They are well-regulated and I know of no ...
