The Second Amendment in a New Light

I was pro Second Amendment not because I was a hunter or a target shooter*. I viewed it as the people's final defense--a "militia--" against tyranny. The Parkland shooting got my brain to rewire.

What I finally realized is that should our government ever turn despotic, public arms---they are calling the AR15, the Minuteman's weapon of today--can do nothing against the might of the U.S. military and the other law enforcement organizations. You would need to count on support from those same organizations (as in Egypt) and the odds of that happening are unlikely as the vast majority of us are entrenched within most fibers of our society. If you own an AR15 to be used as a militia type weapon, you are no different than a Linus with a security blanket.

The only way, IMHO, is to outsmart the government WHEN and IF it should become despotic and abusive of our constitutional rights. Hopefully, no one is yet strategizing for an overthrow of our government--to date that government may be irresponsible but not despotic; at least to the average man on the street.

No one is going to prevent the responsible and certifiably sane citizen from self defense and sports-minded gun use but the assault weapon can and should be outlawed.* It has worked in Australia.*

All ammunition (except for a sensible amount for self-defense) should be kept secure in a state-sanctioned facility until needed for personal approved uses. It's intrusive and libertarians won't like it, but it should be allowed just as readily as we allow for a red light to stop our cars even if we deem it safe to cross that street.

The MSM had a Sandy Hook mother tell of a bill with bipartisan support that enables anyone to report someone to the authorities who has guns and is expressing much anger. The authorities would then confiscate his/her guns until situation is resolved and, I imagine, the would-be perpetrator is certified as now properly dealing with his/her anger. My problem with this scheme is that, in the intelligent individual, it is unlikely to ever work in stopping more than one such incident. Those needing anger management would more than likely refrain from expressing anger a second time and decide instead to manage his anger until he gets his hands on his AR15.

[conspiracy alert]
There is, however, something I came across recently that bothers me very much vis-a-vis the state of violence in our country today. My most recent PETA newsletter listed their accomplishments and one of them was that they had put an end to work being done at a university wherein they were testing drugs on mice. The effect they were looking for was agression. Why would anyone seek to promote agression via pharmacological agents? Well, it is a well established fact that a majority of doughboys fighting in Europe came back home with their rifles unfired. Apparently, a nasty streack of compassion had adversely affected their performance on the front lines. The Vietnamese War GI also may have had a black mark on performance. Although there were atrocities committed there, many GI's availed themselves of the wild marijuana growing there and marijuana is nothing if it isn't a pacifying drug. A drug which conteracts compassion must be something the military would want to use with the less-agressive GI, and what better way to test it than in a civilian without military training.

I'm not saying that Nikolas Cruz was given an agression-promoting drug--that does seem farfetched--but when you see that mass-shootings have only increased in modern times, you have to wonder what's causing it. After all, poisons and matches and fertilizer are far more readily available and more effective if your aim is to break the body-count record. Could it be that only raw carnage satifies drug-induced murder? This would be even more reason to eliminate assault weapons.

RIP Aaron Feis, Scott Beigel, Christopher Hixon, angels amongst us. RIP high school students killed by inhumanity. Get well soon to those who survived the carnage.

*The NRA is not needed by the gun enthusiast. Only the gun industry needs them and those unscrupulous lawmakers who are paid to keep the market as open as possible.

*To be fair, Australia is a sea-locked nation and that may make it easier to outlaw certain weapons.

*Automatic weapons should also be severely curtailed within state law enforcement after a trial prohibition of public assualt weapon possession. There is no godly reason for the average cop to have  automatic assault weapons in his/her squad car.
