The Third Amendment & Police Militarization

In this The Guardian article we learn how our police got to be so militarized. To my way of thinking, this is just a circumvention of the Third Amendment prohibiting boots on U.S. soil for if you can't bring in the soldier, you make soldiers of the cops by arming them to the hilt. What a creative way for the MICC to stay in business, though, "Oh, Congress. We gave our stuff to the municipalities. We need to replenish, please," and Congress dutifully replenishes for there is no auditing when it comes to the Departments of Defense or Homeland Security.

Not only do we the taxpayers have to pay double for weapons and equipment but we are faced with militarized police to help us deal with those who would like to exercise their First Amendment rights. Which is why, incidentally, I support the Tea Party when it grandstands in Congress; it shows that the First Amendment is alive and well, if not in the streets, then in those hallowed halls where no one gets sent to jail for mouthing off. It's also why I fully support the Second Amendment. How ironic that I, a dove far more than a hawk, finds it necessary to condone weapons in the hands of the people.

I'd like to close this mini-rant by posting a quote quoted by Governor Ventura on Coast To Coast AM radio: "if you pick the lesser of two evils, you are still picking evil~Jerry Garcia." That, was said in support of the Governor's stand against the entrenched two-party system. The show that night, however, concerned Ventura's new book on the JFK assassination and his 63 reasons for believing in a conspiracy. One of the most telling, for me, was that the 50 year order preventing access to Warren Commission evidence was extended for another 25 years. I guess with so many of us living longer, the powers that be need to make sure there's no one around who gives a shit about it anymore--for we stand ready to accuse!
