The Bern, the New FDR

I read Jonathan Tasini's book, "The Essential Bernie Sanders and his Vision for America." He, Sanders, definitely has got his act together and I see no reason for not voting for him. Every single position is one that I believe in.

There is one position where he does not go far enough, though, and that is in reining in Wall Street. Yes, his plan to break up the 6 horsemen of the apocalypse will go a long way to assuage the scammers but I know he can do better, and I've written here about how to put an end to the pyramid scheme while protecting the assets of hard-working men and women. While I pray that he reads my post, I know it's mostly wishful thinking on my part.

His position with regard to healthcare, ie, single payer, is one of the reasons that got me on the bus to Philadelphia campaigning for Obama (how naive of me then). While I wish him the best of luck in this, he must come up with safeguards to prevent throwing money at the problem. Without the insurance companies, money will become available to insure everyone but, I know the medical businessman (the guy/gal with the MD or DO degree) and he/she will find a way to milk the system. They are doing it now with Insurers. Will he create a bureaucracy that will be ever watchful of scamming? I'm pessimistic about it but, again, if he takes the time to read my posts, he will nip the problem in the bud. As a small but significant example, what if we insisted--with appropriate controls--that the MD prescribe a year's worth of blood pressure or diabetes or depression medication rather than let the MD take in 4 visits a year to renew those medications? We may just reap enormous savings here, and I am prepared to argue the safety of my suggestion with anyone stupid enough to question it.

With regard to taxation, Mr. Sanders is, no doubt, afraid to elicit calls of "wealth redistribution," and he limits his position to a progressive estate tax. But why should our society have to wait for death to come onto the scene in order to gain some additional revenue? Mr. Sanders needs to address a progressive tax plan that will tax us at a higher amount for every penny we make over that of our neighbor (if we need to round up or down, so what?). The hell with those IRS charts, we have computers now and they can do the calculation for us. With this scheme, the Waltons will pay more in taxes than Bill Gates and Gates will pay more than the Koch Bros and they will pay more than Trump. Also, those rates can be adjusted as needed whenever the country needs more money. It will be a curve very flat at the low end with the low income earners and spiked with the higher income earners.

Because Senator Sanders is the best man for the job, I will campaign on his behalf but only after the nomination because I know how corrupt and asinine those conventions are.

God bless America.
