AR-15: Searching for the Allure and Other Musings
My previous piece on the AR-15 left me wanting. There was something missing from my usual Second Amendment position. I have come up with three additional possibilities for the allure of the AR-15 not covered in my previous blogs. None of them, IMHO, have merit; nevertheless I do not condemn those who may harbor unreasonable and oft irrational fears.
The first no leader can hope to assuage. I hypothesize that my fellow Americans may want the semi-automatic weapon because they fear that no authority can protect them from a race war. The reasons why they may fear a race war are complex and deserve a bigger treatment that what I could provide here. Nevertheless, bigotry is to be found around every nook and corner of the world and it rears its ugly head when we fail to analyze history in all its ramifications.
Diversity* is good for any species including our own. Merely look at the success of England, a country invaded from three directions in its history and ended up benefiting from all. Its language--arguably the richest in the world--was born of Old English, Old German, German, Dutch, Latin, French, and Spanish languages. As for the people, who can look at them and not see their ancestors came from all across Europe.
It was relatively easy for England to assimilate many other Europeans who where Caucasian like they were. Spain, on the other hand, although enriched by the Moors, could not fully assimilate them--not only because of their religion which contradicted Christian belief ("no other prophets until the second coming of Christ") but because of the color of their skin.
Of course, we all want to enrich our societies without the need to be invaded but history and present day American events tell us that the immigrant is perpetually persona non grata and even after having paid a price fighting our wars, picking our food, cleaning our homes, and caring for our old and infirm, they are only as good as their last service to us. Renew DACA, ye of foolish heart!
If you are White in the U.S., you no doubt realize that you are the landowners and you hold most political and financial power. Couple that with what you see is downright poverty among the Black and Hispanic minorities and you might begin to think that you are an obvious target of the oppressed. Would you rely on the government to protect your property and life? Most of us would but some may want to keep an extra security blanket around for good measure. If only someone could convince them that just as no one is coming for ALL their guns, no fellow resident is coming for their money either; now jobs are a different story, but all they have to do is beat them to the front of the hiring line and with their command of English, their comeraderie, and their ethno-nationalist fervor will save the day without pulling out the old AR-15.
There is another more sinister reason for why our elected officials may want to keep AR-15's legal. If you were part of the "new" militia and had decided to engage in mass protests the kind that would have the government in a tizzy, you could easily get "mowed down" by the authorities but not if you were unarmed. However, if you were armed with semi-automatic weapons, the government may then feel justified in using its full fire power against you. This is often lost on Second Amendment advocates: if the government can keep entire countries at bay, how much more so would they ovecome a local militia lacking tanks, missiles, and grenade launchers.
Mr. Trump is, IMHO, capable today of such horrendous oppression, and I say that only because of his inconsistencies which do not allow proper analysis. Nevertheless, there is hope that should Robert Mueller not be as effective as the liberal media envisions, we can still survive without tyranny. The reason for this is that although I've tagged Mr. Trump as a sociopath, I realize that the sociopath wants nothing more than to get along with his fellow man and has the ability and motivation to do so. In other words, the sociopath is an avid learner and imitator of the behavior of those who are different. They may prefer to live in their own universe and often do, but when they venture out into unknown territory as in running a country, you should expect that, given proper counsel, the sociopath will do all right by us. It won't be an easy road, and there will be conflict and contradictions but, long term, I'm optimistic. Just tonight, Erin Burnett was on the air when the news came of North Korea's diplomacy outreach; [I thought I saw EB a bit emotional until Mr. Mudd put a damper on it. All empaths want their President to succeed regardless of past transgressions.] Mr. Trump for his part responded with neither glibness nor snide remarks and garnered for himself a modicum of national respect all too sadly missing from his presidency.
But I digress. There might be one more, but less diabolical reason, for the popularity of the AR-15. What if the ordinary joe never having been in the army, wants to play soldier in his own mind? He/she does this already with paint guns and video games so I can't see them complaining too loudly if the AR-15 and other assault weapons were to be banned (Heavens to Mergatroyd!)
To my Scheherazade on MSM
While so awash in unrequited love
I knew twas all my fault
And so I prayed to God above
That I might see a halt.
But I would find no peace
For I heard her call my name.
Do wonders ever cease?
I hope they don't but who's to blame?
Is it me and my love of beauty
Shallow but still wrought from God?
or is it a piper hypnotically fluty
That is often my Scheherazade?
*Diversity is the sine qua non of blind evolution and we ignore it at our peril.
I think I'm right about Stormy, though. You don't give 130K of hush money unless there are very "revealing" pictures. Also, didn't Trumpie say that of course he didn't do "anything" in Russia because he knows there are cameras everywhere? Who taught him about the prevalence of cameras, and did Stormy predate the dossier?🎵She was the sunshine baby/ And he was the rain (yellow?)/ And he called her Stormy back then/ Now she won't go away...ay/ Stormy/ That Stormy/ Bring back that sunny da. . .ay!
