Who doesn't Like Bernie?
I don't like Bernie. I wish he had been anything other than a consistently ethical, moral, and empathetic politician. After all, it seems only his corporate-loving antithesis ever gets the African-American or Hispanic vote. For Bernie to cement the nomination he would need to be a fraud who switches from a Biden type into one who actually gives a hoot about what Madison called, the "humble sons of obscure and unpropitious fortune." They were, said Madison, equal to the "haughty heirs of distinguished names."
I'm in that group; I don't expect to have multiple homes; I don't expect to ever buy a yacht or even Super Bowl tickets. Do I hope that Bernie would make such things possible? Not absolutely but yes, relatively more possible.
He would do it by making sure that the healthcare industry doesn't rob me of everything I own because their members must maintain their status quo (like Biden would because he's married to one of the perpetrators and getting his kid a job by virtue of his office just smacks of the kind of corruption that the healthcare industry needs in order to stay filthy rich at our expense.--thank you Mr. Trump, the MSM never pointed it out). Bernie would do it by providing higher education that would maximize opportunity for our kids; and, he would do it by channeling M.I.C. funds into infrastructure and global warming fixes. I admit that the latter might be wishful thinking on my part for it's more Tulsi's thing.
Some say that Bernie would be the subject of ridicule on account of his age. These people are woefully unaware that an American president leads by delegating competent people to get the job done; not by Trump or Putin-style micromanaging. To delegate, you don't need to be a Spring chicken. You don't need to be able to put in an hour of racquetball a week.
What you do need in order to deliver what the people want is consistency in your congressional or state voting record and a demonstrated abundance of empathy. None of the other candidates can match Bernie's record.
So, what's stopping Bernie? It's not money and it's not an overhauled ticker or dancing with a dozen partners as a show of stamina. That's right, instead, it's our old well-meaning troll under the bridge to nowhere, the DNC. The same DNC that saw fit to nominate Hillary Artillery instead of a well-documented progressive like Bernie. That's how our two parties operate. From the top, the cytokines, hormones, and impulses are sent throughout the body politic to the lower ranking members that you find at the state level: vote this one, not that one. The Big Party voting public will do what they are told because it's all local politics and they put their trust in the Party, it means the Party will come to their aid should they require it. I come from a blue state and the quid pro quos flow like water, and I'll bet it's the same with the GOP. I have no first hand knowledge but I'll bet dollars to donuts it's no different for even with one party like you find in Russia, the politburo takes care of their own.
Had the DNC gone with Bernie, they would have had a contender who was generally as liberal as Hillary but who would have brought in the progressives, the socialists and--because they do what they're told--would have brought in Hillary's Blacks and Hispanics. Instead they went with Clinton, the higher ranking member of the liberals' "politburo," and they are hell-bent on an encore with the Obama acolyte. Please don't talk to me about winning an even bigger popular vote. It will be as meaningless as it was in 2016--those low population Red states won't flip on the president who gave them what they wanted.
What can Bernie do to attract Trump's base? I think his base knows how they've tried to do without healthcare on account of the costs. They may have eschewed education to keep the farm going but which one of them wouldn't want something better for their kids? It also wouldn't hurt if Bernie pulled back just a little on government sanctioned killing of the unborn. To a start-up he could say, "we're going to give you a long leash for so many years." To the xenophobic, he can say he's going to build a virtual wall through tightly supervised work permits. To the Second Amendment advocate, he can say that he'll demand background checks and assault weapon buybacks and not much else.
But alas, I smell the hemlock again and, regardless of my disdain for Trumpism, I'll have to vote for him again and maybe, just maybe, the DNC will finally come to its senses in 2024 and give the people their candidate.
