Why Aren't Doctors hooking up TWO or more patients to ONE CPAP or BIPAP machine?
Hospital ventilators can easily support two patients. Some of these machines are tailored to the patient's needs but with so many patients needing them, I would think you can find two patients needing similar settings. If worse comes to worst, you can employ an average setting.
This would fix the shortage problem we now have but what if you could hook up 4 or more patients to the same machine?
I suspect the only reason this hasn't been done yet is that doctors and hospitals are spoiled with--up to now--unlimited funds and every patient had his own machine. Time to think outside the box.

This probably does not apply to invasive ventilation being that these machines need to be tailored to the particular patient but these are not the firsts line of defense when it comes to respiratory problems.
Other thoughts: what about CPAP machines now being used in homes. Can we find these anywhere?
What about the "Iron Lungs" once used for polio. Are any of these serviceable?
