Bill Gates, Doing His Part to Increase the Price of Healthcare
He invested 10 billion in the development and delivery of new medicines and got back 30X more.
Let's assume his "philanthropic" foundation got the 290 billion dollars. Great, you say, his foundation can put that money into Covid research and we can have a hundred labs developing the vaccine instead of the dozen or so we have now. Fat chance, no billionaire puts all his money into one basket.
But that's not the issue I bring to your attention. By "making money" on any investment, you will increase the cost of goods and services and that increased cost WILL BE PASSED DOWN to the consumer. For example, I just saw what my shingles vaccine cost the government: $250. Influenza vaccines are just $50 but many more are administered year after year.
Where is Congress or Mnuchin on this? Why haven't they seen the obvious way that the government can save money on healthcare by running their own Global-health groups?
Finally, do we the people understand that the true purpose of a foundation is to pass the wealth down to the heirs? Philanthropy is just a front to put the foundation in a favorable light.
Media Notes: Thanks to John King for that interview with a former W.H. doctor (Dr. William Lang) who said that a doctor prescribing hydroxychloroquine would order an EKG looking for a "long QT" wave segment which would tell the physician that arrhythmias are a potential problem with that particular patient. This explains that the President is taking the drug safely and it explains all the sweating he's been doing. As I've said in previous posts, the drug is pyrogenic and fevers are therapeutic against pathogens. However, the drug is also known to prevent endocytosis from going to completion and releasing the virus' genome into the cell. I like the pyrogenicity angle but only because body temperature fits the puzzle vis-a-vis the senior's lower body temps and their higher susceptibility to covid-19. I've got to run a quickie experiment taking temperature readings post ingestion of quinine (Tonic) water because I often feel flushed after drinking Gin and Tonic cocktails.
Hey Kaitlan Collins, you KNOW where my lips where yesterday on the W.H. Lawn. To bad the CNN video editors where so sharp and puritanical. Brianna's back at 1PM and D.B. looked like she was out for blood.
So, I guess it's useful to know when a news venue has paid its contributors but how many of us know what "thanks for having me" really means? I want to see the Capitalist News Network act more like newspapers and NOT pay their small time contributors. It's UNSAVORY, to say the least! For God's sake, you can just hear the contributor varying their responses so as not to insult the host--give me a fucking break! That's not journalism, that's National Inquirer and not at their best.
