I Doubt My Mother-in-Law will ever get Covid Even at 90+
You see, she has never been a germaphobe and that means her immune system is tip top. When you're not a germaphobe, you subject yourself to all manner of germs that immunize you against similar organisms. My German mother-in-law cleans her home meticulously but she has no compunction with sticking her hands into the sewer and unclogging it by hand. "But Midge, I have a snake for that. Ah, what's the big deal, she says to me." Never argue with your mother-in-law.
When your mother tells you to wash your hands before supper, is she doing you a disfavor? I think so. In countries with many parasites or in our present pandemic, you want to wash them off your hands but, if not, you want lots and lots of germs to keep your immune system on guard.
This brings me to the factoid that Women are less likely to get or die from Covid. Duh, obviously, who subject themselves to more germs as a parent? The one who plays in the parlor with the kids or the one who cleans their diapers and handles them after a dirty day of romping at the playground with other germ-laden friends? My wife and I had eight kids. My wife has never been sick a single day in her life. Like her mother's death-defying antics, she would insert her finger into the diapers to test for contents. Don't ask me what she did after that--I never asked. Why the finger? I suspect my wife was once hit with an ancestor of the coronavirus that affected her sense of smell. I, on the other hand, who peeked inside the diaper and merely sniffed, have had my share of dozens of pathogens that often knocked me on my ass. No, it wasn't my wife fault for the kids stayed generally healthy except for the requisite earaches. Take your pick, America!
What got me thinking about this? All-is-sin and John Berman had on a Dr. Hazeltine who pointed out that the elderly--those who would benefit most from a vaccine--would probably not make those good antibodies that they talk about; as such, they might only benefit from convalescent serum or monoclonal antibodies that doctors could prescribe therapeutically or prophylactically. In other words, a vaccine that works on a young person would probably not work on the elderly.
This brings me to my old complaint: doctors need to think outside the box. I call on the media to tell seniors about Indian or Asian medicine. I ask them to bring on Dr. Weil or other alternative doctor to tell us about the benefits of their stress or inflammation-reducing herbs. Supplements like Ginger, Zinc, Peppermint, Ashwagandha, Astragalus, Echinacea and others would do wonders for the elderly's immune system.
Media Notes:
I hate giving the semblance of delusion, but I really believe CNN and its hosts are vindictive people. I noticed it first when, in following Wolfie, I noticed anti-Trumpian coverage. Then, I remembered that Trump had insulted Wolfie early on or before his presidency. I think he said something about Wolfie's ratings on CNN and ever since, Trump has never gotten a break but Trump knows a bit about vindictiveness too as he continues to attack Obama who once roasted him, I think at a White House Correspondents Dinner.
