A Lesson from the President's LDL Cholesterol Reading
Dr. Reiner, appearing on Berman and Camerota this morning was asked to comment on the President's numbers. He said that doctors were more and more aggressive at bringing down the LDL number and, indeed, he reported that POTUS is on high dose Crestor.
At no time during the interview, did Dr. Reiner or CNN mention that the LDL number ALONE should not be used to prescribe statins--unless you're a cardiologist looking to increase patient counts; and, boy, do we give them an easy path to wealth. Scare the patient into thinking he/she needs statins and you have a patient for life.
But back to LDL. That LDL number is an aggregate reading. If you break it up into its components, you may just be pleasantly surprised to learn that the component most responsible for the high number is NOT as dangerous. There are four components: Very small, small, medium, and large. You want lower amounts of the small diameter stuff. If you have larger diameter particles, you lower the risk of clotting. There are at least a dozen other tests that reveal cardiovascular risk. Is your doctor ordering them or is he just going by the LDL number?
CNN should not promote a healthcare narrative that is suspect, at least. Naturally, I don't expect much. Who, in this country, has the balls to call out the MD's and now with so much first responder cred, they are really going to be sitting pretty. No one calls out the physician because they know that one day they'll need their services--if only because of their monopoly (give nurses and pharmacists the power to prescribe the common meds)--and, make no mistake, doctors are as vindictive as cops-if not more so--because they can get away with it thanks to legislators everywhere.
Cardiologists and GP's are, of course, following the guidelines of their professional organisations but I wonder how many order the more extensive tests and how many just prescribe Crestor when they first encounter a high LDL number. We may think there's transparency in healthcare but you need a lawsuit to get it--the media will not deliver transparency in healthcare.
Media Notes:
As concerns Mr. Floyd, the 'good' cops are pushing for legislation but that is, in the long term, bogus, because no matter what the law, it'll find its way to SCOTUS and they willingly tied their hands many times down the road to police brutality.
A Sheriff on Poppy and Jim said that no protesters in Flint were arrested--er, what is left to vandalize or steal in Flint? Frankly, I'm a student of the face, and I would not want to be arrested by that sheriff--no offence, friend.
I would guess Drew Brees who looks like a cop, has family or friends in the police and looked to connect the protesters with flag-hating instead of police brutality. That was his motivation for screwing up, imho.
I don't trust the cops who dance and march along with us. That sounds beyond the pale, right? Not when you consider that there are a million cops and what, 1,000th of one percent are showing solidarity? THEY WERE A PLANT! "Yo, Charlie, you hobnob with them, right? Go down there and boogie like SCOTUS is about to pull the plug on our right to oppress."
John King gets the coveted coronavirus apparel award for a tie that looks just like a S.E.M. image. Although I might rescind the award if I find out that the tie is one of leopold spots. Hummm. Hey, John, what's your nationality? You look German but 'King' is Irish or Jewish, no?
Are John B. and Alisyn C. on the outs? They were not wearing matching outfits. Did my moniker of 'bobsie twins' finally get to them; or did their spouses finally object?
Several times now on CNN I've heard guests thank 'Wolf' when it wasn't Blitzer who was asking. Twice, poor John K. was called 'Wolf' by two different guests. He's not wolf, he's leopold and he wears his spots proudly, thank you.
