Coronavirus Variants, the How and Why of It

The coronavirus immunologically is essentially all about the spike protein. However that antigenic site sits atop a "stem" which is longer than that of the original coronavirus. This stem is probably where all the variants arise. Let me explain.

As we've said, the spike protein is the site that's recognized by the immune system and variations of it are unlikely to produce successful variants because the spike protein is already very adept at latching onto our Ace-2 receptors--any changes would probably degrade this ability rather than enhance it. [the caveat here is "any natural changes," but when manmade, all bets are off. More on this later]. So, what is the source of the variants such that the impact on immunological surveillance is significant while still allowing for Ace-2 receptor binding?

What role does the stem play in all this? In previous posts, I've pointed out how that elongated stem results in a lower density which allows the virus to remain in air--especially cold air--much longer; but how is it creating new variants? To answer this question, we must talk a little about protein structure. Any amino acid substitutions, additions, or subtractions occurring as a result of mutations affecting the stem will alter the antigenicity of the spike protein because antibodies rely on a constant configuration and conformation in order to repeatedly and reliably find their target (the spike protein) AND the stem by altering its configuration or conformation will ALSO alter the conformation of the spike protein. This sounds like gobbledygook so perhaps a little graphic would help:

With a change in amino acid sequence of the stem, both conformational and configurational effects may be had. The latter is problematic both for antibodies and for attachment to the Ace-2 receptor. A conformational change on the other hand, produces what you might call a moving target. The spike will assume various orientations relative to the stem that impede antibody binding but not receptor binding. I confess that I do not know enough about receptor binding to elucidate why this is but it may just be a function of numbers; that is, there are probably more receptors available for binding to the spike than there are antibodies that can target it.

Mutations that affect other components of the virus are generally speaking, very problematic for the virus. Rarely does a mutation cause MORE spreading or MORE lethality. That extra long stem, however, is the stuff of Faustus Fauci's dreams and, imho, his machinations vis-a-vis his promulgated GoF (gain-of-function) studies.

That long stem has given us a fast-spreading deadly virus that nature would have had a hard time coming up with, and now, we are finding that it may be an easy way for the virus to recur ad infinitum--to the delight of the vaccine mongers.

BUT, do not fear my fellow citizens, for I have invented what may be the ideal weapon against all manner of air-borne and even surface-dwelling microbes. We call it the Sterilaser 405 (patent pending):

The image is of an early prototype. It sterilizes with near UV light but unlike those bulky UV lamps used in hospitals, the Sterilaser 405 does not obey the inverse square law that severely curtails efficacy at longer distances. Research labs (no present affiliations with me) are now working on actual UV spectrum LED lasers that will make the Sterilaser even more powerful allowing it to work even more quickly.

In about a month, the first Sterilasers will go up for sale online. Search for Sterilaser on either eBay or Etsy starting May 23, 2021. If eBay, I anticipate a starting bid of $40 USD. Depending on how fast the first units sell, I can begin mass production. Also, I intend to provide plans and/or kits with the understanding that you will not make them for egregious markups on resells. I vow that the Sterilaser will never be anyone's cash cow or ticket to a billionaire's club--Wall Street be damned! All profits from the sale of the Sterilaser will be re-invested into projects to help humanity or Mother Earth. I'd like to work on potable water, mosquito control, carbon sequestration, and cancer mechanisms (see CancerTheory.blogspot.com).

The Sterilaser will be a game-changer but only by the grace of our Lord--prayers are shamelessly requested to help me end this culling of human life that has arisen through the ineptitude or malfeasance of governments. May God be with us.
