In legitimizing Ted Cruz' run for the U.S. presidency, people talk about Romney (born in Mexico) and McCain (Panama Canal Zone) and Barry Goldwater (born in Arizona before it was a state). All lost their presidential bid and that is reason enough for any major party to eschew the candidacy of the foreign born but one must try to understand the intent of the founding fathers and that intent is as clear as a pledge of allegiance. Any fanaticism drives me bonkers. So, in reaction to an article published in the Daily Kos entitled, " Dear Obama Hater - You Just Wasted A Decade Of Your Life," I would like to express my ire. The tile itself reveals the craziness of political affiliations: a "decade?" when it's been only 6 years that Obama has been in office speaks volumes. This memo by the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy proves how there is nothing noble that won't escape the clutches of corporate interests. The program sounds so beautiful as it speaks of the public getting access to published studies that were funded by government agencies. However, read it and weep, John Q. The memo makes several specifications that are clearly lobbied by scientific publishing houses that stand to lose millions--if not go bankrupt--as a result of these measures. Measures, I might add that came about as a result of their greed in charging an arm and a leg for access. First, there is to be a 12 month embargo on access (in other words, we can have access to year old publications). Secondly, drafts of scientific papers can not be accessed (this one I lobbied for and will continue to do so). The solution to the inversions that many U.S. corporations are doing is to raise capital gains taxes for those who buy their stock. We know the CEO does everything in his power to keep up the stock price for he always stands to benefit from higher prices. We also know that investors like the lower capital gain taxes they now enjoy. When capital gains taxes go up (only for the inverting company), guess what corporations will see their stock prices go down because of the sell off. Will this impact the worker? Hardly. The volatility of the stock price has little short-term effect on day-to-day operations. When it comes time to offer more stock for expansion, the lower price means that they will bring in less but, so what, they'll just have to offer more stock. If there are no buyers, well they can try inverting themselves back to the homeland. But, my guess is that they'll be doing that sooner rather than later. Normally, this would go under my blog "thoughts and ideas" but I've already posted there about this. Time to add some evidence. In the latest edition of Discover Magazine (April 2015), there is an image of Jupiter's South Pole. The photo provides what I think is very strong evidence for my contention that the Big Red Spot is not a "raging storm" active for centuries but, rather, a solid body floating on the surface. In the photo, you clearly see that on one side of the "spot" are smooth lines and on the opposite side are eddies of turbulence. In an Earth storm, any gaseous matter in its path gets taken up by the storm--there are no eddies left behind in its path. I don't have access to data to be able to say whether the spot is plowing through Jupiter's atmosphere (orbiting, if you will) or if it is relatively stationary and the atmosphere is sweeping past it. As I see it, the principles that unite mainstream Conservatives are these: don't rock the boat, government run social programs are bad, security in all guises is good, and I like what I got. Perhaps the last one is the more telling: I like what I got and if we give anything to the poor, it will mean less for me; I worked hard for what I have and I deserve to keep it. Also, I like my religion the way it is, and I'll support my race and my country first. All that, I can understand--yes, even bigotry I can understand (not from the point of view of  inferiority of one race to another but from simple evolutionary conservative principles that say that no new trait (within a group) will see the light of day if the group procreates outside its own or is too altruistic. I posted the following on Facebook (in this posting I left out the article about Mr. Barrett Brown). I soon got a message from Facebook asking me if I wanted to fill out a survey. I didn't have time then and in looking for that message later, I was unable to find it. But the curious thing is that I didn't receive a single "like." Now, I know that Facebook does not want anyone encouraging others NOT to post but could they have kept my admonishment hidden from my friends?
